Alice Ball (1915)

Alice Ball pioneered a treatment for Hansen's Disease aka Leprosy. She discovered that using chaulmoogra tree oil was a good topical medication treatment for the skin (this was also known as the Alice Ball method).  Although this was only mildly successful it created a temporary relief for those who suffer. She found ways to manipulate other methods of molecular weights which helped her to turn this into a water-soluble injectable form, this new vaccine resulted in the prevention of death by leprosy in approximately 8000 people.
